Test Drive Meme: June 2015

Welcome to the Underground test drive meme! This is where you can try out the AU version of your character, start some potential CR and get a feel for the world of the game. Choose your character's species, read up on the available factions and you're ready to go. Put your character's name in your subject line when you post, tag out, and have fun!

Note to current players: Activity in this meme counts as game canon! So you can use it for activity check. If you end up playing anything that you can't or don't want to use as game canon, it's fine to ignore it. (In that case you shouldn't submit it for activity check.)

Here are some prompts to inspire you:

1) LONDON CALLING. People come to London from all corners of the earth. Now you're here and whether you meant to or not, you've been drawn in to the supernatural world. Perhaps you're here to meet other members of your faction. Or perhaps the city's more unusual inhabitants find you first.

2) DARK SIDE. Whether it's animal instincts, a lust for blood or uncontrollable magic, every supernatural being struggles with their darker instincts. Be careful, you may end up doing something you regret.

3) ENEMY TERRITORY. You've found yourself on the wrong side of the tracks. This is enemy territory, you shouldn't be here. Better hope you can sneak your way through without any trouble. Although you have this nagging feeling that you're being followed...

4) GET YOUR SHOVEL. Well, there's a body. Freshly killed, and they didn't come to a natural end. The question is, did you do it or was it someone else? You'd better sort this mess out quickly.

5) STRAWBERRIES AND CREAM. It's the Wimbledon finals, so grab a picnic basket, buy some horribly overpriced strawberries, choose your tennis-themed outfit and get yourself off to SW19. Sure you can handle large crowds? Now is not the time for a supernatural mishap.

6) JUST DANCE. It's a ceilidh! (Barn dance.) Organized by witches but open to all (friendly) newcomers, the dance takes place in an old music hall. There's food, drink, folk music and a magical ritual to bless all young single people attending who are looking for a partner. You never know, your next dance partner might be the one.

7) FULL MOON. (2nd July) Uh oh, it's that time of the month. Werewolves, have you been feeling more aggressive lately? A little short of temper? Better start preparing for your monthly transformation and hope that you don't get interrupted. And then there's the morning after, which feels like a massive hangover. Wait, where are your clothes?

8) CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE. Anything goes.

At the knock, it takes a few moments, but a young woman finally opens the door. Her right brow arches slightly, and her heads tilts to the side. She looks him over for a few seconds before she shrugs her shoulders.

"Are you my tour guide?"

"I was hoping to get a look around the school, yes."

She can't claim to be a prospective student. Unless something really impresses her here, then there won't be any worth to even pretending. Plus, well, she can't actually lie. So, she is here to see the school. It's the only way to get a look at this place responsible for so many wards against the Fae.

"Perhaps they do only show it in groups."

"It seems like quite an influential place. My understanding is that they have claimed quite a bit of London as a no-hostilities zone. Are you very familiar with their policies?"

He might have more information about things. He might be able to tell her something about this place, about the people involved. Or he might know as little or less than she did.

Still, it was worth trying to figure out.

"I only arrived earlier this week from China." Or, at least, that was where her family's current seat of Court was. It moved every so often, but that wasn't important. So long as she was here, she'd come from China only recently. "I'm still learning about this area."

She smiles, at least. Even if it doesn't quite reach her eyes. After all, this place could be extremely dangerous to her.

"Human," she murmurs, tilting her head a little in appreciation of the descriptor. It's true, certainly, that there is less hiding here. At least in the right circles. That is the point of the Institute, from what she's gathered. Still, it's refreshing to hear.

"And what are you? I understand this school takes a great many kinds of students."

Ah, yes. 'Meta human.' Close enough to what they were called where she was from. Humans who walked close to both worlds, sometimes born of the fae and humans. It wasn't completely uncommon. She might have easily ended up one herself, but her father's blood had won out, rather than being muddled by her mother's.

"What can you do?"

She gave a small smile, holding up her hand to let a small blue flame flicker above it. It was the implication of being a meta human herself with the power to control fire. And implications weren't lies.

The flame is as hot as it looks, and it flickers like a candle with the movement of his hand.

Azula is a fae older than she looks, but she can appreciate the level of talent in the display. She can see him, but she exaggerates her expression, making it look like true surprise rather than mild interest. When he reappears, she claps politely.

"That's very impressive. Are you hoping to improve your abilities here?"

"I'm very curious about this school and their policies regarding the fae. It seems the two are on bad terms, given the wards drawn around the school's perimeter."

And the fact that she can't open Doors, but she doesn't think that needs to be mentioned. No one is going to make her confess to what she is, not right now.

"There is always political unrest. Strange for the witches to risk crossing the fae, though. Their wrath... Well. There are plenty of stories about all of that."

It will be interesting, she thinks. At the very least, it won't be dull. Probably not what her father wants her to do, but she should stay close to the political situation. It might, after all, be something she can use. Perhaps something that her entire court can use.

So, Redbright and the Courts here. She has quite a lot of work in front of her.

"Not allied, exactly. They have their individual squabbles, of course, but they aren't politically opposed or allied. No one, really, disturbs the fae there." They have too fierce a reputation and are too closely tied to the elements. Crossing the fae can mean disaster for the mortal realm. Why this land isn't the same... Well. It tells her all she needs to know about the kings and queens in this place. "London is very strange."

But it's worth studying, worth understanding. Her father told her she has much to learn before she can hope to ascend to his throne, and she intends to be ready for that role.

"What else do you know of the politics here?"

"Ah, let me guess. You're one of those who thinks that English and American citizens are vastly different. There's likely to be more of a culture shock from me to the customs here than from an American. East and West can be quite disparate, especially as I was raised very traditionally, rather than with a modern upbringing."

And she was raised over hundreds of years, rather than merely just over a decade. However, she didn't need to say that outright.

"Still, it doesn't seem as though we're getting a tour. I suppose we will need to look around for ourselves."

"Have you ever tried to get a real cup of tea here?"

It's said with some acidity, but she rolls her eyes and forces herself to breathe. Still, even with his beginnings of a protest, she's already at the door and walking out toward the grounds.

Whether he's coming or not is his call.

"A library shouldn't be difficult to find," she murmurs. "Though why you'd bother reading what someone else has to say about the current situation instead of finding out things for yourself... It seems pointless to me."

She is much more in favor of acting for herself. Of speaking to people and learning by what she sees. It leaves less room for misinformation to present itself as true. With multiple versions of the truth, from multiple sources that she knew weren't to be trusted, she could divine the truth.
