Test Drive Meme: December 2016/January 2017

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Welcome to the Underground test drive meme! This is where you can try out the AU version of your character, start some potential CR and get a feel for the world of the game. Choose your character's species, read up on the available factions and you're ready to go. Put your character's name in your subject line when you post, tag out, and have fun!

Note to current players: Activity in this meme counts as game canon! So you can use it for activity check. If you end up playing anything that you can't or don't want to use as game canon, it's fine to ignore it. (In that case you shouldn't submit it for activity check.)

Here are some prompts to inspire you:

1) STAY ANOTHER DAY. Maybe it's just for the holidays, but if you've come to London to reconnect with friends and family, now is the time to make the most of it. And it turns out, someone is pretty keen for you to stick around. Your loved ones? Or perhaps you've been noticed by one of London's supernatural factions. Don't go just yet, friend. The city may need you.

2) CHRISTMAS DAY / BOXING DAY. (25th-26th December) Whatever you think of Christmas, it's everywhere in London. Christmas songs on the radio, Christmas lights in the streets, carol singers, and presents under the tree. Of course, in the supernatural world, the presents may just have a magical twist. What's that strange little gift from an unknown sender...?

3) NEW YEAR'S EVE FIREWORKS. (31st December) The New Year's Eve fireworks display is always spectacular. Count down to midnight with Big Ben, then watch the spectacle along with the crowds. Or you could stay at home and watch it on TV.

4) STRANDED. Your flight got cancelled. A storm delayed your train home. The hotel made a mistake with your booking and now you have nowhere to stay. Whatever the reason, you're stuck in London with nowhere to go and it is cold. Depending on where you've ended up, it might be dangerous as well. Are your kind welcome here?

5) DRINK YOUR SORROWS AWAY. Look, it's winter, it's dark, not everyone is having a good time. Might as well buy a drink... and another... and another...

6) NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION. Goodbye 2016, hello 2017. New year, new you. You've decided to make a change, maybe for yourself, maybe for the entire supernatural community. How are you getting on?

7) CALL A TRUCE. The holidays are a time of peace. Maybe just this once you can have a drink with an enemy and put aside any bad blood.

8) CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE. Anything goes.

Stranded

"Should get yerself inside," a male voice with a distinctly Southern accent said as he approached from her left. He was bundled up for the cold, shoulders hiked to his ears despite this. He sniffed loudly as he started to walk pasted her and waved one hand that he quickly shoved back into a pocket, "Bus for this stop only comes between 9am and 2pm. You're better off on the tube."

That accent. Rogue's head jerk up at the sound of that voice, the familiarity of it in a place where she was the foreigner. It was... comforting to hear that accent, especially in her current circumstances.

"Any suggestions of where to go?" she asked quickly in her own southern drawl, not exactly looking for anything more than just that - help in looking in the right direction. "Everywhere around here is full."

Daryl slowed up and stared at her for a second, confused. He'd thought she was waiting for the bus, not actually looking for a place to put up her feet for the night.

"Shit, I dunno," he said without much further thought as he back tracked to stand closer to her. "You ain't got a friend that can lend you a couch?"

Shaking her head slightly and stuffing her hands deeper into her pockets, she explained, "I don't know anyone in the city, I just arrived today." And already she was beginning to wonder if she'd made the right decision. Moving her entire life to a different continent was a bit of an extreme way to start her life over, but she had to hope that it would be an effective one.

"I had a reservation at a hotel, but they must've lost it. Everywhere else I've checked doesn't have any rooms, too many people here for the holidays, I guess." She hadn't planned this very well, she was beginning to realize.

"That's shit. That hotel sucks. Better off without it. Probably do worse shit if they lose your reservation this time of year. Specially when they know it's chaotic."

Best Daryl could do, short of offering up a space, was commiserate.

"You uh... whereabouts you from?"

He was probably right about the hotel. Once upon a time, she'd tried to see the good in people, hope for the best, but now... Yeah, the hotel was shit. Somewhere else would be much better. If she could find somewhere else.

"Probably not too far from where you're from," she answered with a barely there smile. "Mississippi, originally. Been a while since I've been back. Moved around a bit, decided to come to London because I heard it was kinder to people who were different."

No definition there. Could mean a lot of things, different.

"Georgia," he offered, then dug into his pockets for a cigarette. Lit it quickly and offered the pack to her. "Place ain't too bad. But it's easier to get settled if you got someone or something lined up. You got a job yet?"

He was assuming she had a working visa at the very least. If not, she'd be hard pressed to find a legal career. But if she was the type not to care, there were plenty of places willing to hire below-board.
