She had until the age of twenty-one to make a contract for herself or she risked falling victim to the Widdowson curse, what had supposedly killed all of the previous members of her family. Either they failed to make a contract or rescinded on their bargain with the Fae, and they paid for it with their lives. Because of her family's past, Abigail has been integrated into a sect of the Midnight Circle, trained to use her powers by Unthank, specifically the spells to summon a fae who could protect her once the contract was made.
