When you're already anxious, and extra little thing can set you off. So while Natasha's people watching might've seemed normal to just about anyone else, Connor is already nervous enough that by the time she lays eyes on him, he's already staring at her. They make eye contact. Shit. He's not entirely certain what to do next, should he say something? Pretend like nothing happened? he takes a sip of his coffee, trying to play it off, play it cool like whatever they're totally not staring at each other, but this is also still incredibly awkward.
He waits, anxiously tapping his foot while he tries to figure out. He could just, you know, leave. Take his coffee and sip it while angrily walking back to the library or something to get some actual studying in instead of worrying all the time about whether or not the supernatural really existed. But that would be a normal person thing to do.
Instead, he looks back over at her and asks, "Are you waiting for someone?"
