Kara’s expression is impassive but inside she’s feeling mighty skeptical and a little peeved.

A walk on the wild side. Really? That’s it? That’s what brought him out here, where he’s interrupted—and critiqued!—her vigil?

She seriously contemplates offering Altaïr some criticism of her own, but a ball of scuttling fur distracts her from that thought.

Across the street and up a ways, another denizen of Faery has popped over to take a walk among the mortals. This particular one is a squat, hairy beast with a large mouth of sharp teeth and four sets of clawed feet on which it scuttles about. It’s an ugly thing and only the size of a Pomeranian, but it packs one hell of a punch.

And this nasty beast has spotted some prey: a distracted mortal woman, who stands immobile as she scrolls through a particularly engrossing set of text messages. With a guttural cry of joy, the creature launches itself forward, hitting the unaware woman square in the chest and sending her flying backward with a cry.

On the other side of the street, Kara watches dispassionately as the scene unfolds. When the woman goes down, she remains steadfast with no intention of moving to help. Why should she? Mortals in distress are not her responsibility.
