Test Drive Meme: December 2016/January 2017
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Welcome to the Underground test drive meme! This is where you can try out the AU version of your character, start some potential CR and get a feel for the world of the game. Choose your character's species, read up on the available factions and you're ready to go. Put your character's name in your subject line when you post, tag out, and have fun!
Note to current players: Activity in this meme counts as game canon! So you can use it for activity check. If you end up playing anything that you can't or don't want to use as game canon, it's fine to ignore it. (In that case you shouldn't submit it for activity check.)
Here are some prompts to inspire you:
1) STAY ANOTHER DAY. Maybe it's just for the holidays, but if you've come to London to reconnect with friends and family, now is the time to make the most of it. And it turns out, someone is pretty keen for you to stick around. Your loved ones? Or perhaps you've been noticed by one of London's supernatural factions. Don't go just yet, friend. The city may need you.
2) CHRISTMAS DAY / BOXING DAY. (25th-26th December) Whatever you think of Christmas, it's everywhere in London. Christmas songs on the radio, Christmas lights in the streets, carol singers, and presents under the tree. Of course, in the supernatural world, the presents may just have a magical twist. What's that strange little gift from an unknown sender...?
3) NEW YEAR'S EVE FIREWORKS. (31st December) The New Year's Eve fireworks display is always spectacular. Count down to midnight with Big Ben, then watch the spectacle along with the crowds. Or you could stay at home and watch it on TV.
4) STRANDED. Your flight got cancelled. A storm delayed your train home. The hotel made a mistake with your booking and now you have nowhere to stay. Whatever the reason, you're stuck in London with nowhere to go and it is cold. Depending on where you've ended up, it might be dangerous as well. Are your kind welcome here?
5) DRINK YOUR SORROWS AWAY. Look, it's winter, it's dark, not everyone is having a good time. Might as well buy a drink... and another... and another...
6) NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION. Goodbye 2016, hello 2017. New year, new you. You've decided to make a change, maybe for yourself, maybe for the entire supernatural community. How are you getting on?
7) CALL A TRUCE. The holidays are a time of peace. Maybe just this once you can have a drink with an enemy and put aside any bad blood.
8) CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE. Anything goes.
allison argent | teen wolf ( human )
[ allison's relearning how to be alone. instead of isolating the people she's left behind. europe is something of a second home to here, having divided her time between france and the states. london is somewhat new to her but she thinks that the hustle and bustle of this particular city suits her better than a small town in northern california.
she had initially wanted to just spend new year's eve in the quiet, but her father of all people suggested that they see the fireworks over big ben.
she has to admit as the clock strikes twelve that it is a beautiful sight standing on the bridge and watching sparkles fill the sky. the sight is so distracting and the crowd is so saturated that she seems to have lost her father in the mix. bumping into the person next to her, she still quietly apologizes, ] Oh, I'm sorry.
[ but the new year's festivities still take allison through some of the delights london has to offer. if the holidays really are a time of peace between enemies, allison can't argue with that sentiment. in a thick knitted scarf, allison pulls her red plaid coat tighter around her body as she waits in the train station.
reports say that the crowd – and unforeseen circumstances – have caused a transportation backup. her phone is on its last stretch and she can't even listen to music now.
there's always a knife tucked into her boot. actually, there are two knives tucked into both black boots she wears tonight. it's dark underground and she doesn't want to let her guard down even after her evening. ]
a
She didn't need to pick pockets anymore, not necessarily. But she knew she needed to keep her skills sharp.
Besides, she was saving up to buy Cooper a nice watch for his birthday, and if he won the election, she was going to be looking for a proper job for the first time in her life. And that meant she'd need some extra cash. That was more than enough justification- so tonight as those hundreds watched the fireworks, Nancy was working her way through the crowd with ease.
She hadn't gone for Allison's purse, actually. She'd been about to reach for the wallet of the man just left of her, when she felt the girl bump into her. Gloved hands go up to steady her.] Don't worry about it, love. It happens.

I don't know why I'm so – astonished by the crowds. I mean, it's New Year's.
[ she gestures to the fireworks above their heads. then, the thought returns to her: ]
Oh yeah. Happy New Year!
no subject
Not that it was hard to spot someone trying to lift from you, if you knew what you were looking for.]
Happy New Year to you, too! It's a beautiful night for it. [That doesn't stop her from wrapping her arms around herself, her charcoal pea coat doing well enough to keep out the chill.]

The sky is clearer than we expected, I think. I do like a good fireworks display, [ maybe she's really been hurting for conversation with someone close to her own age after leaving her past behind her. allison chuckles more to herself than to the young woman, ducking her head and brushing her hair behind her ears. ]
Having a good night?
no subject
The conversation that Allison brings is unexpected, but Nancy doesn't shy away from it. Most of her friends are significantly older than her, or much younger, in the case of the boys.]
Yeah, I am. [The wallets in her purse indicate that.] How're you liking London?
no subject
[ allison finds herself laughing anyway, shaking her head. her accent is mostly standard american with snippets of french slipping in here and there. she can feel her cellphone vibrate and assumes that this is a message from her father. she can get to that later. ]
It's my first time staying here longer than a weekend or so. I'm enjoying it. My family has its roots mainly in France.
no subject
Oh that's wonderful! [She did not hate France, contrary to the popular opinion.] I've always wanted to go to France. [It was really pathetic, she was learning, that she'd never been out of the country. Everyone had left the country. Except Nancy, it would seem.]
no subject
[ she smiles up at the fireworks still going off high above their heads. ] New Years by the Eiffel Tower is pretty crazy, but I recommend seeing it just once in your life. [ they never stayed too long in paris proper, having their home bases further into the suburbs and the countryside. it's all argent traditions. ]
no subject
Nancy sighs dreamily, looking up at the fireworks. She's missing out on more prime pocket picking, but the conversation keeps her where she is. It's nice to talk to someone her age.] Oh I'd love to go- maybe I'll drag my boyfriend next year.
no subject
Where's your boyfriend on a night like this? [ from anyone else it might be a creepy come on but allison is just curious and wanting to make some conversation, a soft smile on her face. maybe it really has been too long since she has actually gone out and made friends. ]
no subject
[She adored them all.] So he's probably drinking whiskey and watching Rebel Without A Cause. [Cooper had a whole James Dean thing going on.]
new year's eve!
[ a grin, shoving his hands into his pockets. ] What’re you doing out here? [ a second. ] Uh, bad question. You’re here for the fireworks, right?
[ which are still going on, and they’re beautiful of course. part of him wants to whip out his camera, take photos. but. another larger part just wants to enjoy them like this. not through a lens. ]
no subject
[ oh, no a dog. allison used to worry that dogs weren't the biggest fans of her but tiny easily assuages her quiet fears. who knew a bump of a dog's tail against your legs could be so helpful? she reaches down to scratch tiny behind her ears. ]
That's right! So was my dad but we – we definitely got separated. [ he trusts her enough now, at least, to know that she will come back home in one peace without causing too much trouble. (maybe just enough. allison has never 100% adhered to the rules.) it's his last night in the city before duty calls him back to the states while her journey continues here.
but enough of the dog petting. she knows that voice and she never forgets a face, as different as it looks right now. it doesn't take allison long before she throws her arms around him in a big hug. ]
It's nice to see you.
no subject
[ but that would mean separating in the first place, so, he doesn’t mean it. not really. he’s glad, to have her here in the circle of his arms. tiny obviously upset at her attention being taken away, barks up at them, and he laughs. squeezes tighter for a moment, before letting her go. ]
It’s been waaaay too long, Ally.
[ too long not having seen what he can call his first friend, who had been kind to him when. well. not a lot of people were. at times, he thought he might be invisible to everyone else, the thought born by how his peers seemed to overlook him. but she— she saw him. and that was enough. ]
You should have given me a heads up, that you were going to be around. I would have met you at the airport. Made a banner and everything.
[ uhhh. ] Two banners. I mean, can't forget your dad.
no subject
she'd briefly mentioned her mother's passing recently, still very much in touch with her old friend without giving too many painful details. it's easier that way, even through some of the video chats over time.
allison pulls back and rests both gloved hands on his shoulders instead, her smile curious now as she looks him over. ] I don't think he would've recognized you, honestly.
[ and she giggles because she can't help it. ]
no subject
[ he knows well, he looks different. compares the photos he’s taken of himself recently, to the one’s he’d taken when he started running. and the difference, is still startling to himself sometimes.
he still remembers sending her that first text, when he wanted to get in shape, a simple question. Do you have any running tips? how he had held his breath until she had answered. ]
Is it the hair? Does it look weird?
[ one of his acquaintances had said that with his hair gelled the way it is, that he looks like a bird. ] Be honest. I can take it.
no subject
[ of her memories of spending half her life on this side of the globe, she knows the ones with prompto are few and far between but she looks back on each one of them warmly. she remembers how it used to be, how shy he was, how instantly they connected even as kids. allison was so unsure of herself back then, but tried to put on a self-possessed front for her advice-seeking friend.
she reaches up to ruffle his hair. ]
You look fantastic.
[ and, okay, he's getting another hug because she cannot express over the roar of the crowd how proud she is of him and how happy she is to see him, having accomplished what he set out to do. ]
no subject
being himself now means squawking when she ruffles his hair, hey, it was artfully disheveled before. now it’s probably just plain disheveled. but still accepting the hug, this time ducking only a fraction they’re so close in height to rest his chin on her shoulder. ]
So do you. But that’s nothing new.
no subject
[ allison briefly buries her face in his shoulder, the feeling more familiar and unfamiliar because she knows it's him and it sounds like him, but this is a new version of him that needs some getting used to. it shouldn't take her that long. ]
Happy New Year! [ pulling away, she takes him by the shoulders again. ] I think it's a good sign, you know? That we're meeting up like this in a crowd this big.
[ she almost says it's fate but there's no such thing as fate. it's a happy coincidence? maybe that's the same thing. allison bites her bottom lip and looks him over one more time. ] I kinda missed this side of the pond.
