She honestly hadn't meant to kill. When he fights back, she pushes harder, forcing him back against the wall. As his struggles stop, she thinks he's just giving up.

Eponine steps back, her hands going to her mouth, still trickling his blood, in horror. His body crumples and falls, a heap of clothes and flesh. She's dead. Joss or Cesare is going to kill her.
"Sanglante! Je veux dire, putain d'enfer. Qu'est ce que je vais faire?" She kicks out at the body lying at her feet. "Why didn't you listen, you stupid idiot? Why did you not stay still? Now we shall both die, you idiot. You fool. You - you - OH!"
She spins suddenly, realising that she can still hear the man's voice, and can see his ghost.
"I didn't mean it, M'sieur. I swear. Why did you move? Why did you not listen to me?"
Blood drips from her chin, staining her new top. Joss is going to torture her.
"What am I going to do?"
