Test Drive Meme: August 2015
Welcome to the Underground test drive meme! This is where you can try out the AU version of your character, start some potential CR and get a feel for the world of the game. Choose your character's species, read up on the available factions and you're ready to go. Put your character's name in your subject line when you post, tag out, and have fun!
Note to current players: Activity in this meme counts as game canon! So you can use it for activity check. If you end up playing anything that you can't or don't want to use as game canon, it's fine to ignore it. (In that case you shouldn't submit it for activity check.)
For prospective players: Thinking about bringing a character to the game? Feel free to comment to our Potential CR Planning meme for OOC planning and discussion.
Here are some prompts to inspire you:
1) BABY COME BACK. Is there someone you miss? Maybe you've come to visit for the first time in months. Maybe you'll even stay.
2) FULL MOON. (29th August) Uh oh, it's that time of the month. Werewolves, have you been feeling more aggressive lately? A little short of temper? Better start preparing for your monthly transformation and hope that you don't get interrupted. And then there's the morning after, which feels like a massive hangover. Wait, where are your clothes?
3) CARNIVAL. (30th-31st August) It's the August bank holiday weekend and that can only mean one thing: the Notting Hill Carnival! With the sun high in the sky, enjoy the parade, the music and of course the food. Jerk chicken, anyone?
4) SPECIAL EFFECTS. There's nothing like a touch of subtle magic to add to the occasion. Dress up and show off. Mind you, there could be other supernatural types around who see straight through your tricks.
5) PARTY ALL NIGHT. It's not over when the sun goes down. Get yourself to one of the bars or after-parties and keep on partying. Just don't drink too much. You know it makes it harder to control your powers... and your urges.
6) BRAWL. The police work hard to keep London's gangs away from Carnival. When you have supernatural gangs to contend with, their job gets a whole lot harder. Drunk and disorderly or simply looking for an excuse to cause trouble, encounters between rival factions can soon become hostile. Now are you here to cause a fight or to stop it?
7) NIGHT IN JAIL. Oops. What did you do? And who's that with you?
8) CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE. Anything goes.
Brawl? 8D
At this point, being part of Daybreak as well, she can recognize Mr. Norrell from quite a distance. Astride her little motorscooter, Liz zips down the dark street, leaning on the horn. Whether they were unable to cast on such short notice, or they were just flummoxed by the young woman with enough gall to attempt to run down three witches on a glorified Vespa, the Circle Midnight witches scatter back and away from Norrell. Elizabeth does a doughnut around them, then stops in front of her fellow witch.
"Let's go, before they curse the paint off this thing!"
OH GOD
Gilbert Norrell, in truth, would not even know that what she rides is called a Vespa. He clutches his book to his chest and stares at her. She wants him to -- on a Vespa? Driven by her? She doesn't even have a helmet he can wear! He has a second to think about starting to protest before one of the Midnight witches begins to move again and he makes for the Vespa, makes a clumsy attempt to get on.
He's as much afraid of it as the witches at this point, but that doesn't matter. This thing can get him away from them, and keep his book safe!
He has enough dignity to resist clinging to her, and instead grips a hand on her shoulder awkwardly.
"Do you have a licence?" is about the only thing he manages to say, not a word of things.
Gilbert Norrell met the words 'thank you' once and sneered at them.
OH GOD? D8
"--but my appointment for the practical test isn't until next Tuesday!"
It's surprisingly speedy, considering there's a woman and a full grown man on the tiny vehicle-- she's definitely riding over 28 miles per hour. A Vespa wasn't just a Vespa if it was taken apart and put back together by a particularly clever witch. It's totally illegal of course, but what else was she supposed to do when the politics in the city were more dangerous than she'd originally been warned of?
"Hang on!" she warns before taking a sharp turn down a side street behind a pub. "Songbird can't outrun a coven on speed alone, we need another plan."
THE COMBINATION OF THEM IS FUNNY/AWFUL HAHA
Norrell grips her shoulder tighter and tries to weigh up what is worse: death on an illegally driven Vespa or death by Midnight witches.
He supposes he can't even make a choice now. He's already on the Vespa, and he's far too frightened to get off. This was a terrible idea. Coming out was a terrible idea! Where was Childermass when he needed him? He should be here! He should be doing something about this! Norrell will have to give him a piece of his mind of this, that's for sure.
"You mean to say you did not have a plan?" he protests, even more incensed by the second.
Still. He does have a preference for living. Norrell bristles internally, hesitantly loosens one hand off her shoulder and looks around as they weave through the streets. What can he do? What can he do that will not be too conspicuous?
His lips press into an unhappy line, mostly for his own benefit since she cannot see him, then Norrell begins to mutter something under his breath. Around them and slowly spreading out behind them, a layer of fog begins to build.
OH, YES, YES IT IS. 8D I admit, I saw you and leapt, I am massively enjoying the show. 83
She navigates the scooter through the streets, and true to her word the coven darts around the corner and after them down the alley. She can see it in her side-view mirror. But Elizabeth can also see the fog starting to spread out behind them, and she decides to take a risk.
She takes another hard turn into a narrow alley, the fog quickly filling up the small area. Once they're down far enough, Elizabeth kills the engine behind a collection of dustbins and cardboard boxes. And they wait.
Have you read the book READ THE BOOK TOO
Of course. How typical of Americans. Norrell, in truth, finds this information as alarming as he does irritating. He's on a motor bike of some sort (the term 'Vespa' is too specific for him to know) with an American who approves of shooting first hiding from Midnight Witches.
This is why he always sends Childermass to do these things. He's never going out when one of these things is happening again. In fact, he should very well insist that all such orders are delivered to him! When witches are attacking him in the street, when his life is in danger from rebels and --
He hears movement and Norrell grips Elizabeth's shoulder harder for a second, holds his breath. There's the distant sound of voices and confusion, and his anger drains right out of him in favour of fear. If they're found here, they might be cornered. He doesn't want to die here, in an alley! Like an animal! He has so much more to do!
NO I SHOULD DEF READ THE BOOK thank you for the reminder 83
...she just drove her motorbike at them first.
It's an important distinction.
The voices coming closer and Mr. Norrell gripping her shoulder does cause Elizabeth to panic. The fog isn't enough, they need to get the other witches out of the alley-- quickly before they come further in. She bows her head into her jacket and starts muttering quickly to herself.
Furious barking cuts through the quiet of the alley, and the witches jump back. Through the haze, they can barely make out the shape of a medium-sized dog, growling and barking, standing crouched over a litter of pups. After some brief discussion, they decide not to agitate the mother and leave.
Elizabeth holds onto the illusion as long as she can, but once she and Norrell are alone, she can't make herself sit upright and blood is dripping out of her nose.
"Really haven't had too much practice with that one..."
