Test Drive Meme: April/May 2016
Welcome to the Underground test drive meme! This is where you can try out the AU version of your character, start some potential CR and get a feel for the world of the game. Choose your character's species, read up on the available factions and you're ready to go. Put your character's name and canon in your subject line when you post, tag out, and have fun!
Note to current players: Activity in this meme counts as game canon! So you can use it for activity check. If you end up playing anything that you can't or don't want to use as game canon, it's fine to ignore it. (In that case you shouldn't submit it for activity check.)
Here are some prompts to inspire you:
1) GOING UNDERGROUND. For some people, London is an escape. A place to be anonymous. A place to be themselves. Or a place to hide. Steeped in ancient magic, it attracts supernatural types from all over the world. Of course, that doesn't mean its inhabitants are always friendly to newcomers.
2) CHOOSE YOUR LEADERS. The Night Council election campaign is in full swing and on 5th May the supernatural community votes for its leaders. Visit any supernatural haunt and you'll find people arguing about who to vote for – not to mention the volunteers handing out badges and flyers in an effort to win your support. Try to keep it civil, folks.
3) THE PUBLIC WANTS WHAT THE PUBLIC GETS. (29th April) The Night Council candidates gather in a town hall in Westminster to explain why the supernatural community should vote for them. Traditionally a noisy and raucous event, it's your last opportunity tohecklequestion the candidates before the election. There are four separate Q&As: first up are the candidates for Shapeshifter/Meta Human representative; then candidates for Witch Representative; then Vice President; then finally the candidates for President will take to the stage. They each make a short speech and then take questions from the audience. Or if you want, you could just turn up for a free meal: in the room next door there's a sandwich buffet plus tea, coffee and fruit juice, so it's a good opportunity to mingle.
4) FIRE FESTIVAL. (1st May) The fire festival of Beltane is a time of celebration for witches, marking the beginning of summer. Come along to the bonfire for music, food and drink, flower crowns and fertility rituals.
5) SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES. (1st May) Beltane is also a time when the barrier between the human world and the Other Realm is at its thinnest, making it easy to pass from one realm to the other by chance. You might even have an encounter with the mysterious and mischievous fae.
6) WHAT'S DONE CANNOT BE UNDONE. You've gone too far, done something you know you'll regret. Maybe you ran away, broke a promise, even committed a crime. Maybe you've been supernaturally transformed. Either way, there's no going back.
7) WHAT ANGEL WAKES ME FROM MY FLOWERY BED? Oh, sweet mortal. There's an enchantment on you that makes you suddenly, devastatingly attractive. Especially to more magical types.
8) CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE. Anything goes.

Evie lets go of his hand and takes a seat. "I thought I should stop in and introduce myself, since I've only just returned to town." They had both been turned around the same time, from what she could recall. "Both as a Countess of the Nest, and as an ally." She knew very well he was the police commissioner, and she'd worked closely with Scotland Yard before, in the past. She and Inspector Abberline, the man assigned to the Jack the Ripper case, had been quite close, when she and Jacob were running the city.
Coming to speak with Coward and explaining what it was she did- if he didn't know, though she could only hope the Assassin ring on her finger gave that away- wasn't the first time she'd had this specific conversation. The police were valuable allies, and getting them to look the other way was no easy feat. But once achieved, infinitely useful.

Just to make it clear he knew precisely who she was. Then, he offers a smile since, well, his name might not be one she's all too familiar with. She'd worked with police on a lower level, maybe not ever knowing how far up her name had gone.
"I was the Home Secretary shortly after the Ripper. It's a pleasure to have you here."
no subject
"Thank you. If I may say, your home is exquisite." She had an eye for finer things. Most vampires their age did.
She settles back in the chair. "I'm sure you can guess what comes next." Hint: it's the part where she offered her services, should they be considered necessary.

Officially, he couldn't ask anything of her. Neither as part of the Nest -- he didn't have the standing -- or as Police Commissioner. However.
"Between friends--" He opened a drawer in his desk and offered a few business cards. "These individuals may be worth speaking to, as they are private citizens."
Gilbert Norrell and James Memon were among the names he could offer her. They both had relatively deep pockets and could afford a woman of her skills. Besides, they were his allies. Offering her services was a good show of faith.

"Thank you," she takes the cards from him, glancing at the names. Norrell's name is more familiar to her than Memon's. She slides them both into her inside jacket pocket. "I'll keep them in mind, perhaps I'll pay them a visit, as well."
She smiles, but barely. "I'm quite good at deliveries, as well." No one can really do anything if a wanted criminal just happens to show up on their doorstep. "But of course, I understand completely."
Now that she's here, there's really no reason to leave so soon. Besides, she's curious to get to know Coward. "You said you were Home Security after the Ripper." Jack had been a particularly troubling ordeal, not just for London, but for Evie on a personal level. But he was dead, she'd seen to that.
"I left London shortly thereafter- how was that?"

He couldn't ask her to procure a piece of daylight jewellery for him. That might make Millicent angry, as he'd handed it over upon his return as... a kind of penance for his abrupt depature. Still, once he regained his rightful position, it'd be turned back to his custory. He could wait. And work around the irritating limitations of his current state.
"It was... trying. Not more than a few years later, there was a rash of murders -- ritualistic. Black magic, actually."
Which he'd been an accomplice in, but that had never actually come to light. Nor had his full role in the events after against Parliament. He was taken for an unwitting accomplice rather than one who'd acted with full knowledge.

Another nod. "Hell- I should have stayed, but I was still needed in India." She had had to get Jacob out of London, and work with him to fix what, unfortunately, was his mess. "But I trust a man of your talents was able to solve the case."
Black magic, though. She didn't expect anything else. Jack had released something in London, a fear that had seeped into the Thames, changing the very atmosphere of their beloved city. "I almost preferred the Ripper." He'd been messy in his work. Thankfully.
no subject
Unfortunately.
But he didn't need to go into anything about that. The basics would do.

It wasn't exactly comforting to know he hadn't been the only evil in that city. Templars had been one thing, but Jack...She shook it off, thinking about him never did anyone any good and only furthered his memory. If she had her way, he'd be buried in the annuls of history, deemed irrelevant.
Would that she should be so lucky.
"I shouldn't keep you any longer than necessary."
no subject
He rose again and stepped forward, offering his hand. It was, after all, only polite. Like her, he wouldn't keep her longer than necessary. Anything else they needed to discuss could be done at another time.
For now, they'd covered the main bases.

"I'm sure I'll see you again. Thank you, again, for the names."
