Test Drive Meme: August/September 2016
Welcome to the Underground test drive meme! This is where you can try out the AU version of your character, start some potential CR and get a feel for the world of the game. Choose your character's species, read up on the available factions and you're ready to go. Put your character's name and canon in your subject line when you post, tag out, and have fun!
Note to current players: Activity in this meme counts as game canon! So you can use it for activity check. If you end up playing anything that you can't or don't want to use as game canon, it's fine to ignore it. (In that case you shouldn't submit it for activity check.)
Here are some prompts to inspire you:
1) HOUSE OF FUN. Whether it's your first time in London or you've lived here all your life, you hear that this is the place to be for someone like you. A place to let loose, have fun, and embrace your true nature, whatever that may be.
2) THE LION'S DEN. And this is not the place to be. This is the enemy's camp and if they catch you...
3) IT'S QUICKER IF YOU RUN. So here's the game: you run, they chase. You might even escape, with a bit of luck... or maybe some help.
4) THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE-OFF. Be inspired and make some cupcakes, attend a cake sale, or try home-baking with your friends. Who says supernatural creatures can't have a sweet tooth?
5) SUMMER = BBQ. Another great British tradition: the moment the sun appears, it's time to get out the barbecue and enjoy some slightly-burnt burgers and hotdogs. With summer fading, what are you waiting for?
6) THE CHEMIST. Even creatures of the night occasionally require a visit to the pharmacy. Bit awkward when you recognise a fellow supernatural being waiting for a prescription though...
7) STUCK ON THE TUBE. The Underground would like to apologise for the delay to this service. It's probably a signal failure. Not a supernatural trap or anything, nope.
8) CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE. Anything goes.

[Dodger would point out - again - that he's not a boy. He looks out for the boys, and helps them learn the graft themselves, but he's not one of them. It's been years since he was one of them and even then he's pretty sure he was never as green as half of them that show up, looking for Fagin's generosity of spirit.]
Nance, when have I got the time to go entertain some fancy woman, eh? [But he shrugs, and pockets the thing again. He won't argue with her. He'll find the person it goes to, at some point]
no subject
[She gives his a hat a tap, knocking it askew.]
I don't now, I'm not in charge of how you spend your time. You keep that safe, alright? [she puts her hand on his shoulder. He knows what she means: don't let Fagin see it.]
no subject
[He's teasing her as much as she teases him, though his face drops whenever she knocks his hat. Listen, he had a hell of a time to keep this hat, he ain't having it knocked about the way people are doing]
You ain't in charge of it, but you knows how I spend it. You did the same. [He gives a glance. To Fagin go the spoils, she knows how it works. If he squirrels something away, well, ain't anyone knowing about that]
no subject
[She smiles at him.]
Not all the time. [And by the time she was his age, she was on the streets every night, but she's not going to say that out loud.] I think we have pretty different extra curriculars.
no subject
[A laugh and a grin]
More than you know, an' that ain't telling you the half of it. [Because while their jobs are different - he won't deny that - there's still a lot that can have both of them out every night]
no subject
[Speaking of.]
Grab a girl a gin?
[she chuckles.] Sure. You just keep safe. Things are bad out there, not like they used to be.
no subject
[There's an eye roll but he does go to grab the gin, bringing over two glasses. He pours out the measures, and raises his own]
To yer health, Nance. An' don't you be worryin' about me. I always keep meself right.
no subject
[Yes, thank you. She accepts the gin, meeting his glass.]
And yours. [Drink.] You say that, but you don't know a lot of them like I do. [Raymond was a menace. Cooper was playing at his best friend.]
no subject
[He drinks and glances at her]
An' if you know them so well, why you ain't using that information?
no subject
[admit she's an adult and older than him and it will all be okay.]
Who says I ain't?
no subject
[The Dodger gives a it of a scoff, meaning it as a tease. He looks at her, his mouth pulling at the corner into a smirk]
An' there's the Nance we all love.
no subject
[None of Fagin's kids had been kids for long, as much as Nancy liked to pretend they were to remain innocent.]
Whadd'ya mean by that, hmm?
no subject
[There's still that cheek inherenet on his face though, and the smile could be considered infectious. The Dodger hadn't been a kid for long, and he doubted Nancy even considered pretending much innocence for him. He'd been with Fagin long as anyone could remember, learning about the Courts and pinching from them too.]
Only that the Nance we know keeps her cards close to her chest. An' she don't run off with no new fancy man.
no subject
[New fancy man. Nancy raises an eyebrow.] So you heard about Cooper.

You sound like bloody Cesare.
I'm not showing anything off. He's my boyfriend, he likes me. I like him. If anyone else wanted to be in his position they could have bloody asked.
[It's a sore subject, and it shows from the way she snaps at him]
no subject
Don't start gettin' high an' mighty at me, Nance. He's your fancy man? Then why did he talk you someplace he knew you'd be around regulars? Somewhere there'd be a lot o' important people seein' him make that statement.
[He rubs the side of his nose, shrugging]
I just reckon he was pullin' somethin' an' using you to do it. An' I don't like that.
no subject
[she doesn't like it at all.]
I already got the whole thing from Cesare, so I don't need it from you, too.
[she pauses, her green eyes flashing dangerously. A bottle rattles behind her.] He wouldn't do that! [if he was... no, he wouldn't.]
no subject
no subject
you can't say something then give me that look.
no subject
... I'm just pointin' that out, is all.
no subject
He wouldn't use me. he won't hurt me.
no subject
Just sayin' that people could read into what he did. An' maybe some already have. [How else would the Dodger hear about it. He wasn't there]
