Test Drive Meme: October/November 2016

Welcome to the Underground test drive meme! This is where you can try out the AU version of your character, start some potential CR and get a feel for the world of the game. Choose your character's species, read up on the available factions and you're ready to go. Put your character's name and canon in your subject line when you post, tag out, and have fun!

Note to current players: Activity in this meme counts as game canon! So you can use it for activity check. If you end up playing anything that you can't or don't want to use as game canon, it's fine to ignore it. (In that case you shouldn't submit it for activity check.)

Here are some prompts to inspire you:

1) DEEPER UNDERGROUND. It's easy to get mired in the supernatural in London. There are places where you won't see a single normal human being. Once you've joined a coven or a pack or a nest or any of the other supernatural groups in the city, it's hard to back out.

2) IN THE SHADOWS. What is that in the corner of your eye? In that dark corner over there, was that a flicker of movement? There's definitely something. You should investigate.

3) DON'T PANIC. It's fine! So maybe you accidentally used magic in public or a creature of the night is following you down a dark alley or you can't get those blood stains out of your clothes or you're trying to work up the courage to ask someone out on a date. It'll be fine. You'll be fine.

4) SAMHAIN. (31st October) Known to the public as Halloween and to witches as Samhain, tonight is the night when all manner of supernatural creatures come out to play and the humans will be none the wiser. Of course, if you're a witch, tonight is much more serious business. The veil between the worlds is thin, and magic can easily reach through the cracks.

5) DRINKS ON YOU. (31st October) This Halloween there are a number of vampire raves taking place around London as the Islington Nest gets drunk and high on fae blood. Visitors beware: venture into the wrong place and you may well find yourself on the menu.

6) HOUSE OF HORRORS. Okay, whose stupid idea was it to venture into a haunted house tonight? Even humans are more sensitive to ghostly activity around Halloween, so let's hope the ghosts here are friendly...

7) BONFIRE NIGHT. (5th November) Remember, remember, the 5th of November. Gunpowder, treason and plot. Bonfire Night is a long-standing tradition in the UK, commemorating that time back in 1605 when Guy Fawkes and his co-conspirators tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament. (They failed.) Tonight, light a bonfire, set off some fireworks and watch your guy burn. Lovely, isn't it?

8) CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE. Anything goes.

Finnick smiles as if he likes being inspected, when really it makes him hate her a little.

"One doesn't just go fishing for fae Lords," he tells her, glancing up and down to size her up as well. She doesn't feel exceptionally powerful, so he has no reason to believe she deserves an audience with one of his or an Unseelie Lord just because she decides she wants one. Not that he could get her one that easily, having lost his title, but he can act like he has that power.

"Which mutual problem do you need to discuss?"

"Who asks?" she prompts, finally coming to a stop and tilting her head at him. "One doesn't just go blurting out their business in public."

She's just saying.

Ah, she's not dumb. It was a shot in the dark but he's still annoyed.

"A Knight of the Seelie court," he answers earnestly. "I may not be one of the Lords you're looking for, but like I said, you don't just go fishing for fae nobility. Just like I wouldn't walk into Croydon and demand to speak to a High Priestess, or... the Mother of Witches."

"A Knight?"

Well, she can deal with a knight. Morgause likes tradition, and knights are a traditional concept. She takes another sidestep, as if considering circling him curiously.

"The Mother of Witches, the President of the Night Council. You say that you would never demand to speak with her, but a curious change in law earlier this year suggests someone has. The fae are allowed in Night Council territory. Has she become soft in her own age, or has someone spoken to her?"

"Someone went through the right channels," he tells her with a soft laugh. He could impress her by telling her that it was two someones, and that one of those someones was him, but the obvious questions that follow aren't a topic he loves to discuss. "No one stood on the edge of their territory holding incense and poison berries hoping to attract Sylvia Redbright into a parlay."

"Perhaps they should have, I should like to see that."

She stops once more, tilts her head as she studies him. Like there's something about him she can't quite understand.

"Tell me, why do the fae deign to speak with the Mother of Witches, when she passes laws that time and again restrict their movements and privileges in this realm?"
thelittlemerman: (smile//reaped again and totes happy)

Finnick shrugs casually, leaning back against the tree. "I'm not one for politics, so I can only make guesses, but..." he trails off, turning his eyes to her, expression soft. "We're outnumbered here by those who believe in the system that she rules over, and I think many of us have lived through more than one violent uprising."
redpriest: (⍟ 8)

[personal profile] redpriest 2016-11-08 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't think you're outnumbered, I think she simply controls too much and gives no room for argument. Sylvia Redbright cannot rule forever, perhaps her time ruling should simply come to an end sooner than she hopes."

Which, of course, might be why she's standing in fae territory. At this rate, it can't be a coincidence and she isn't about to pretend it is.
thelittlemerman: (neutral//that's a bad plan)

[personal profile] thelittlemerman 2016-11-10 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Finnick agrees with everything the witch is saying, but he'll always be cautious in these matters. There's no need to risk everything they've worked for so far, he thinks, and there are less aggressive ways for them to get what they want.

"It sounds like you detest Ms. Redbright greatly. Why are you so eager to have the fae be the ones to end her rule, as you say? There are other groups in this city who don't like her controlling everything almost as much."
redpriest: (⍟ 7)

[personal profile] redpriest 2016-11-11 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"Did I say I was eager? Did I ask you to end her rule?"

Morgause links pale hands together and takes a few steps forward finally, closing the distance between them to something private or companionable -- or it would be, if they particularly liked each other at all. She studies him with black lined eyes, quiet a moment.

"I am perfectly capable of doing my own work. When Sylvia Redbright's tears soak the grounds of Daybreak territory I hope to be there to enjoy it. When she is forcibly ejected from the Night Council I hope to watch the flames. But I also hope to be the one to set them burning, to make her realise she has lost. She still has followers. They will lash out. The aftermath of an uprising needs controlling, and that requires support. I know the fae want it as much as I do. You have everything to gain if she falls. But I don't think the decision to help will be yours, in the end, sir knight. Tell your lords Morgause wishes to speak with them. At least one of them will know my name."
thelittlemerman: (jerkface//tell me your secrets)

[personal profile] thelittlemerman 2016-11-13 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Finnick doesn't back down from her intrusion into his personal space, raising a bored eyebrow instead. He smirks as she talks about an uprising, about setting the flames of Sylvia's demise, but other than that he doesn't betray any of his feelings on the matter.

He supposes he could get in contact with Eames, pass it along just to see what he says. He knows Eames wants this done but he also knows that Eames is more careful than he lets on with his plans.

"I may find a way to mention your name," he says, "and if they truly want to find you I'm sure they will."
