Potential CR Planning
Thinking of joining the Underground? Come tell us all about it. This post is for prospective players to discuss their characters' AU backgrounds with canonmates and other characters, and to establish pre-existing CR (character relations). The aim is to help you figure out what to write in the background section of your application and to give you a starting point for building CR when you join the game. You can use this post to:
• Share your ideas on how you'd like to adapt your character's background to the game.
• Ask questions and request feedback on your AU plans.
• Discuss potential shared history with canonmates and build in cross-canon CR.
Please note that nothing discussed here is guaranteed, since not all prospective players will submit an app or be accepted into the game, while others will app without having commented to this post. After the next round of applications have been processed, there will be a follow-up CR planning post for accepted players to confirm initial plans, make changes, and look for new CR.
This post is intended to be an open discussion between current and prospective players, but I'm happy to answer any mod questions you might have too. Oh, and feel free to jump into our latest test drive meme!
For current players
Are there any characters that you'd love to see in the game? Post your requests here! I'll add them to the ATP advert, and who knows, they might inspire someone...

Like if I decided to get my character's magic up to three, which I think is the start of mid-strength, would I then be able to have him have control over an element like mist, which I believe is considered a midlevel power.

Zelgius/The Black Knight | Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Background:
Zelgius is a loyal knight taken to the extreme: the only two things in his life are the sword and serving his master. Canny, reasonable, and even honorable in his official capacity as an ally general in the first game, Zelgius nevertheless spends most of the Tellius plotline completely betraying everyone by also acting as the Black Knight, a general for the opposing army. :'). He kills the main character's father in Path of Radiance and then poses as a friend, it's literally terrible.
Plans:
In game, I'd similarly like to attach his loyalties to a single character and have him act as a double agent for an opposing side. I was thinking he'd support Daybreak or maybe Redbright officially, and use his alter ego, the Black Knight, to act on behalf of one of its enemies (the fae seem like a natural choice for a weirdo swordsman who never shows his face, but I'm still thinking things through).
Long term, I'd like to have his duplicity be revealed and have someone kill him off.
Possible connections:
* Zelgius would most likely be a metahuman who would identify with other misfits. He's actually a pretty nice guy on a one-to-one basis, it's just that his one instance of personal loyalty trumps all others. I'd like for him to have friends on both sides.
* Obviously, he'd need a character to devote himself to. I'm okay with handwaving this as a shadowy NPC but I think it would be a lot more fun and meaningful to have it be an actual character in-game. So basically he needs a Sephiran in his life.
* Zelgius would also seek to enter the service of a powerful member of the opposing side, all the better to prove himself and be a more convincing double agent. He would be a ruthless, tireless supporter of this character's cause and participate in every conflict he could in their interest without also compromising his loyalty to Daybreak/Redbright (so basically a free minion). Plus he's a knight. Who doesn't want to be backed up by a hulking, threatening Black Knight?

He'd probably get along well with Redbright types, obviously, so that could definitely be a thing!

also when he dies Ekko will try to rewind time to save him. And fail and fail and fail. I shouldn't look forward to that so much.

Therefore we should do it

It's actually part of his canon character introduction comic. Though that was a twelve year old street rat.
FAILING TO SAVE PEOPLE. THE MOVIE. THE GAME. THE LIFE.
Mary Seward | Bloodlines tl;dr i'm sorry
Canon background:
So the general idea of this book is that the good guys in Dracula did not win. Mina Harker became the bride of Dracula and everyone went on living their lives (except Mr. Harker, who died. A lot)
In Mary's canon, the year is 1916 and she is a nurse in a VA hospital tending to soldiers who are recovering from loss of limb and generally any injury horrifying enough to send them back home. She's the hardworking only daughter of Dr. John Seward, who was friends with the late Van Hellsing. Indeed he was the doctor who preformed the examination on Mina Harker's friend Lucy while she was in the throes of the vampire Dracula.
So, I'm realizing that I could literally type this entire book plot point by plot point so I'll just hit the big important ones for the sake of keeping this short. Ish.
- Mary gets engaged to a guy named John Shaw. She's best friends with his sister Lily. Lily is engaged to a guy named Quincey Harker. Everything is happy.
- Turns out Quincey Harker is Dracula and Mina's son and wants Lily to be his vampire bride. Cliched, right? Also it turns out that John Shaw is his half brother. Gross? Sure.
- Lily goes to Dracula HQ to get married to Quincey. Mary and John rush off to stop it because NO BAD. Lily commits suicide mere hours before her wedding after learning what her fiance is. Said fiance is crushed, genuinely, by her death.
- Mary saves a baby girl from being vampire chow. John is turned by his mother and is now a vampire mofo and SUPER evil. Mary is heartbroken and runs. Quincey leaves too. Everyone is sad.
AND THAT'S JUST BOOK 1 JESUS. (only one more i swear)
- Mary is super paranoid and thinks vampires be everywhere. (she's right but shush) She meets this guy who is genuinely really nice to her and is in no way suspicious. His name is Lord Bathory. Shut up.
- Quincey turns up what a surprise. Oh wait he wants to be a good vampire? How do you even do that. Mary is conflicted when he asks for her help to 'fight his urges'. I smell UST.
- Dad dies. So sad. Killed by vampires.
- John is evil and it turns out Lord Bathory and Mary's BEST FRIEND are both vampires who have been tasked with bringing Mary to him dun dun dun
- Quincey saves her! omfg so romantic. The end
AU background:
So, by translating this into modern day, Mary was a nurse working with vets who were likewise horribly injured. Everything else is basically the same. I'm taking her after book 2 and she will be a regular human who is also sort of accidentally a hunter. She's trying to track down John so she and her creepy vampire boyfriend can not be stalked by him.
She tries to keep the vampire boyfriend thing a secret.
Personality Breakdown:
Paranoid
Honest
Polite
Well-read
Hardworking
Daddy's girl
Plans: I'd like for her to be basically providing home care services to supernatural folks who cannot go to hospitals. If possible I'd also love for her to be the nurse who worked for the doctor who was injecting his patients with vampire blood because it fits so nice.
For her to train with the whole killing of vampires, while also being an ally to vampires. It's very mixed up.
Potential CR:
- Mentor figure. For vampire hunting.
- someonetoplayherstupidvampireboyfrienddon'tjudgeme.
- Patients!!
As a note: I'm not sure where I'd want her allied. Hunters or Redbright would be fun, but she's just a regular human so IDK.

Helen Poole | OC
And that brings me to this lovely girl. Helen Poole. A ghost. She's still being worked on as far as the specifics of how she died and exactly how old of a ghost she is (all i know is she's ollllld), but she died young and horribly. And slowly, over time her ghost has gone from someone simply wanting to find the young man she was in love with at the time of her death (who couldn't save her) and be reconciled to pass on, to a much more vengeful spirit.
She fools people into helping her 'pass' and then drives them mad to kill them. Very lovely girl.
I'm thinking she has an accomplice, simply to do the killing for her. And I'm thinking vampire (because why not) and for her to be allied with the Islington Nest because of it.
Sound interesting?
Re: Helen Poole | OC
errrrone has a heart of gold. Mostly. Sometimes. Tarnished bronze.

Helen sounds reaaaally interesting. I'll be super interested in seeing her in the game with her wrecking some havoc in the environment!

Bucky Barnes | Marvel 616
Canon Background: Basically, Bucky is a warden of the state. He's kept out of the system and raised on a military base in New Jersey to honor his father who died in a freak accident during instructing. He becomes a mascot of sorts for the base and also starts a smuggling business for all the enlistees. At age sixteen, some of the enlistees sneak him into a dance hall, where he (as per usual) gets into a fight with a local and it turns the entire bar into a brawl. He gets arrested, but a General bails him out because he sees potential in him. He's trained by the British SAS in England and becomes Captain America's partner in the War who does all the dirty work Cap can't do (interrogation, recon, assassination) for the next four years.
So, I'd like to retain his background as a soldier and since he was trained in England, I figure maybe that can be fudged somehow to allow him to stay in London at one of the barracks.
Now here's where I can't decide a route:
I think he would be a good fit as a meta human or a werewolf.
As a meta human I think it'd be cool if he got his powers from being cursed. I was thinking that, since all his problems always seem to stem from bar fights in canon, maybe the guy he starts a fight with is a witch/fae/something supernatural and, of course, curses him. I'm still waffling on what he'd be cursed with. I was thinking something like emotional empathy; however, while he may be able to sense other people's emotions, he would in turn be able to project his own emotions on others. And since he's a complete hot head and rather insensitive, it would disrupt everyone around him a lot.
The Army wouldn't appreciate that or all the money they wasted into making him a super special snowflake, so they may send him to Redbright Institute for help controlling his powers in the guise of further air force training??
BUT I AM ALSO TORN WITH HIM BEING A WEREWOLF!! If he were a werewolf, he would be in that bar fight and on his way out, likely bitten by whomever he started the fight where no one could see them. Which, you know, is all well and good except he's a soldier so obviously once he's deployed for his first tour that curse is going to activate.
Again, this is a problem because an Army can't exactly control a werewolf on the field or off it. So maybe they send him back for "air force training" in order to find a way to control Bucky as a tool during full moons.
I think being a werewolf would be a good fit for him, especially since he already has the anger issues and also because the ATP said you guys are a little low on 'em...
My biggest problem here is if this is realistic? Rebright, I'm assuming, can't house him since he would be of the East End pack. Would he be allowed in as part of a pack if he's still got ties and duties to the military?
What do you guys think?

This is Diana Meade!! She's from a canon called The Secret Circle, and I'll be AUing her in from the TV show version of the canon, if people are familiar with the books. She's a witch, and her AU background is basically some Shit went down with her coven back home, she learned her parentage isn't what she thought it was (what is with me and these types of characters) and that she also has potential for some really bad Dark Magic. Naturally the proper response is to fly halfway around the world to get away from it. I was planning on apping her into Circle Daybreak, because in canon, she specifically states that she's not okay with Dark Magic of any kind, and actively attempts to avoid it.
My problem is right now I have no concrete plans for her, except maybe to get her integrated with the circle in London, and possibly offer her services to help out werewolves! I'd also like to do something with that Dark Magic connection, but I'm not sure what.
Suggestions and possible CR hooks are welcome, and I have a test drive thread for her here... which I stopped tagging when offline stuff got hectic BUT I WILL RESUME TAGGING IT FOR INTERESTED PARTIES!!
Thanks a bunch guys!!
Jensen | The Losers (movie)
Potential new application in the works. I’m friends with the Mab-mun and after months of telling me about this place I figured I’d give it a shot and see how things go.
I’ve decided on Captain Jake Jensen from the movie version of The Losers. He has the mad skills but is kind of a goofy derp about things for a vast majority of the time. For now I was thinking of just going the Human route, and I’m told there’s a Hunter faction but I don’t see any information on it. I’m not sure if it’s a faction or just a job occupation within the game, some clarification would be great. Chances are I just missed where it was written (I wear glasses for a reason).
A bit of background: Jensen is / was part of an American Special Forces unit, until a minor unfortunate incident in Bolivia sent everything haywire and the whole team had to go underground. Apparently some douche-mcgouche by the name of ‘Max’ has been pulling some strings on some high-fangled ecological global terrorism bombs and framed Clay’s entire team along the way. Long story short, Clay and crew (Jensen: “Me me!”) managed to halt that whole diabolical cluster-mess but Max got away.
Plans?: I figure at this point Clay splits his team globally in hopes in trying to find Max. Jensen, being the more personable one of the bunch, is sent to London and handed over to (insert faction here) and briefed that he’ll be dealing with some exceptionally strange, yet dangerously skilled, people. From there it’s kind of a blank slate. Behind the scenes he’ll be trying to sniff out Max, but I figure this is where he can get swept up with all of the other things within the Underground world. Ultimately I’m playing him for the laughs for this game, I like bringing comic relief to the table when I play.
Looking for some input on how to slide him in so that I can tweak things to make him fit snugly into this particular game. Always open for suggestions, but I’d like him to stay human during the initial stages. If he ends up being turned into something else later on down the road I’m game for that. Jensen is a military guy, so if I can fit him in where he’s instructed for certain missions along the way that would be great. His primary skills are Technology and Communications, so he could probably have a job at a software company or be an IT guy along the way as far as his everyday job prospects are concerned.
He is also mad-skilled in being the biggest cheerleader for his 8-year old niece’s soccer team (“Go Petunias!!”). He hacks satellites in order to get the latest footage on his niece’s games no matter where he is in the world. Not to mention he likes Journey, playing with dinosaurs, and making failed attempts at picking up women.
I’ll be jumping in shortly to start getting some test drives going prior to application season beginning once again. Y’all can see how I drive…blindfolded, and eating bananas. It’s GISHWHES week right now, so things have been hectic on top of the usual work obligations.

So factions I think Hillingdon Clan might be his best shot - factions wise. I will think more on this after I have had more than five hours of sleep.
Also I need to get you on plurk. It makes for easy plotting.
edited because five hours does not provide for good html-ing

So are the Hunters dispersed amongst different factions then? I read the factions part multiple times, and I guess I'm just confused since the rules say I must join a faction, but there's really no place for humans that is being specifically mentioned other than being a vampire's chew toy. Everything else seems reserved for meta-humans. This is where the confusion is setting in for me at the moment.
I wanted to go the hunter route, but it appears they're not even listed or explained. So who would give orders, and how would I go about this whole business?
You'll probably just tell me tomorrow when I visit you. But at least you have something to read. XD
